FAQ

Estate planning questions

What happens if I die without a will in New Jersey?

New Jersey intestacy law decides who inherits. A spouse may share the estate with children or parents, and the court appoints an administrator. A will lets you choose beneficiaries, guardians and an executor.

Do I need a trust or is a will enough?

A will is enough for many families. A revocable trust can avoid probate delays, keep your plan private, and help if you own property in more than one state or have a family member with special needs.

How often should I update my estate plan?

Review it every three to five years and after any major life event: marriage, divorce, a new child or grandchild, a move, or a significant change in assets.
